Hel tried to deny the Astral link (Ygdrassil) to the Upper Planes/Heavens but broke it completely, also cutting off the 'Lower' planes. As a result her own plane was also disconnected.
We don't know what physical damage/changes occurred on the Prime (or any other Plane) but we do know that there was a mega-volcano at Tiris due to the Plane of Fire and Prime Converging there. Hence the residents of the Plane of Fire refer to Ragnarok as the 'Convergence'
