The Gith device involves manipulating earth (gemstones) within/inside metal (the device) - this uses stone to create pathways between places that can ignore the traditional doorways (temples). Garuk vision 2 - The only one that didn’t not move (or cut himself for that matter) was the central figure – the leader. As he watched, the central Gith reached into his leather pouch and again produced the ‘device’ (used to belong to Zerthimom): the 3-inch diameter, flattened spherical object. Again, this was what Zerthimon appeared most interested in, as the vision enlarged in Garuk’s mind to expose the object’s detail more clearly. It had not changed: the spheroid was smooth copper on one side and highly detailed, gem encrusted metal on the other. Again, the Githyanki placed it carefully in his palm, smooth side down and gripped it firmly by sliding his fingers into the indents at the side. The shimmering dome of silver-blue light swirled again but this time was shot through with ‘sparks’ of red and black. The Gith twisted it open - again, dividing it into two equal halves. Garuk realised that the smooth, black square with gold etching, which occupied the space between each sunken setting, corresponded to the 6 rune stones he had seen. Once again, the Githyankie leader took two purple gems from the top and placed them into corresponding settings on the bottom half before closing the device and reforming the oblate spheroid. The centre of the device shimmered bright silver momentarily before red and brown light swirled into the centre, turning it purple. Fulgar vision 2 - So? That is why the travellers came to the Khan! What more do you know?” Gask seemed indecisive, “there is one among the travellers who has an artefact of great power.” “Go on…” her voice a mix of threat and wonder. “Well,” Gask paused, seemingly to consider what he should divulge, “they gave the impression that it enables a more direct path to be followed – without the trials, if you will. It is complex and needs careful operation.” (The image of the artefact flashed into Fulgar’s mind.) She sensed that Gask was hiding something, “You have it – this artefact?” “Not yet,” Gask took a pace away from her, before turning back to hold her gaze, “the Khan is in negotiation with their leader…” “But he means to secure it? At whatever cost?” “He does,” Gask smiled before turning away again, “they too are looking for something or someone.” As quick a lightning she reached forward and spun the mage around, “What do you mean, Gask?” “They believe another traveller – not aligned to them – has power over the path.” Gask looked scared, as if he was about to lose his pendulous orb. Chimeg’s composure returned and she stepped backwards, “Power?” she asked in a whisper. “Yes, Lady, though they were reluctant to reveal more; it seems whilst this creature lives, he can block their access to the temples.” “And why do they need the temples? What do they seek?” “Oh, I think they are very much aligned with your cause, Lady Chimeg, but – perhaps – on a larger scale.” Gask was clearly dripping information like tasty morsels to a hungry dog. So, was this Gask’s power – his understanding of the paths? Chronicles - Fulgar was told that Shang-Ti wished him to hunt those that corrupted the holy place and seek the device they held that could join the path to this place. Not only must he realign the paths in this place, though, but all eleven other temples! He was also told that someone he traveled with could make use of the device, which confused him for a moment, but the messenger meant Garuk... perhaps it was linked to his people in some way?
