Riuros, by Sylvan reckoning, 896 (early 4th Age)

My Dear Quorune,

I trust all is well in the House of Yagrik. Thank you for your invitation; you are quite correct I am something of a scholar of ancient songs and verse and I have specialised in those produced by my mother’s lineage – as it is obviously far more rich and varied than my father’s. From what I understand from your note, which I received, auspiciously, on the Winter Solstice, is that you are particularly interested in verse concerning travel; how the First Born came to the Prime and, potentially, how they intend to return. Whilst I accept your invitation to meet with you and the House of Yarl at Yarlug, I thought it might be helpful if I summarised at least some of my thoughts here, in advance of the meeting.

Well, it is true that the Elves arrived in ships from several of the Outer Planes. They used Songs and Verse, principally designed by the Sea Elves to travel on the Astral. They had little care who may have overheard them and might use the same techniques – why should they. (More of this at our meeting.) The elves recant their travels over oceans and up rivers, which those who came later believed to be the Rivers Cloof and White Wash; indeed, as you know well, that would place them close to two points of Astral intersection that exist on the Prime.

However, I have discovered that their songs could have been more complex, more intricate than that. Indeed, they might have guided their ships to specific points on the Prime – both in Locale and, shockingly, Time. (I understand your Eastern cousins have some similar abilities - though they appear more mechanical – also derived directly from experience of other Planes.) If verse can be used to travel to the Outer Planes as well as manipulating the time at which one could arrive on the Plane, then the Elves have a very great power indeed.

I hope that you will understand that I am reluctant to write more and will endeavour to reach you before the next complete arrival of the Queen of the Night.

Yours Dutifully,

Rathon, son of Barin,

Songmaster of Numenorea
